How to use JSON to XML
- Add your JSON data. Paste text or select a file from your device.
- Choose your options. Review the settings and select Convert.
- Save your result. Preview, copy, or download the output.
Know your output.
XML attributes use @_, text uses #text, and JSON exports are wrapped in a root element. Mixed-content XML and round trips may change structure. Standard character entities are decoded; DTD and entity declarations are not supported.
Conversion happens locally. Refreshing or closing this tab clears the workspace; downloaded files remain on your device.
JSON to XML: conversion behavior
Export JSON as XML with one root element. Top-level arrays use item elements; @_ and #text keys describe attributes and element text.
Use it for a generic XML representation of structured data, then check the destination application's schema.
- Objects are wrapped in <root>. A top-level array becomes repeated <item> elements inside that root.
- Keys starting with @_ become attributes and #text represents text. Other keys must be valid XML names.
- JSON type distinctions may be lost in XML. Round trips do not preserve every type.
- The result is checked for XML syntax, not an XSD or service contract.
Questions about JSON to XML
Can I choose the root name?
Not in this version. The output uses root; edit it if another name is required.
Why is my property name rejected?
A valid JSON key may be an invalid XML name. Rename keys containing spaces or other unsupported characters.
