Still images only; animated images are rejected. Images are re-encoded, so metadata and color profiles may change. JPEG removes transparency and uses your selected background. Maximum 20 MB and 24 megapixels per image, 12000 pixels per side, and 100 MB total input. Width and height apply before rotation. Results may be larger than the original; quality is not a target file size.
Conversion happens locally. Refreshing or closing this tab clears the workspace; downloaded files remain on your device.
JPG to PNG: conversion behavior
Create a PNG copy of a still JPEG locally, with optional resizing and rotation. PNG cannot restore detail lost in earlier JPEG compression.
Use it when an editor or upload form specifically requires PNG.
- PNG losslessly stores the decoded pixels; it cannot undo JPEG artifacts.
- A JPEG has no transparent background to recover. This tool does not remove backgrounds.
- Photographs may become much larger as PNG. Conversion is not a size guarantee.
- Re-encoding can change metadata and color profiles.
Questions about JPG to PNG
Does JPG to PNG improve quality?
It avoids another lossy JPEG encode but cannot recover missing source detail.
Why is the PNG larger?
